Youth wage rises The National Minimum Wage for young people is to be increased from £3.20 an hour to £3.50 from 1 October. This follows a recommendation by the Low Pay Commission, and will give 140,000 young people an average £10.50 a week increase. The rate is due to rise further in October 2002 to £3.60. The youth rate will continue to apply to workers aged 18-21. For the full News, see pages 4-5, 7-8, 27 of the August/September 2001 issue of First Voice |
