'Metric martyr' awaits his day of judgement COMMENTARY: Caution over Equal Treatment Directive Self-employed have rights too, you know Survey signals growth in employee share ownership FSB signs up to racially aware leadership project National Business Day is a success |
Caution over Equal Treatment Directive A new Equal Treatment Directive, approved by the Council of Ministers last October, has been met with caution by the FSB. The Directive has the purpose of securing the equal treatment of all workers regardless of their age, religion or belief, disability or sexual orientation. Legislation concerning the prevention of gender and racial discrimination has already been passed. The FSB has responded to the Directive with two suggestions. First, the derogations (flexibility to account for national differences) allowed by the Directive should be clarified and contain clear references to the position of small businesses. Second, a long period of information and preparation is necessary for small businesses to adapt to the potentially serious effects of the Directive on their operations and such periods should be longer for small firms to allow them to remain competitive.
